Rockies Building "Super Suite."

This just in. The Colorado Rockies are tearing out nine luxury boxes overlooking the field on the first base side to build a "super suite" that companies and other groups can reserve for special events.

Larger is better. Coors has had a lot of requests they couldn't handle because the space wasn't big enough.

The project is expected to be finished by mid-March.

RocHenge, a Denver based design and installation company, has the naming rights to the facility. HOK, the architect behind Coors Field is designing the facility.

The expense is $110 to 140 a person, including food but not beverages. The mega-suite can be divided into three units, each of which can accommodate up to 65 people. Opening Day, at $175 a pop, is sold out.

When the 2008 season begins, companies will be able to slide back glass walls to get closer to the action on the field.

Coors Field Neighborhood History

Coors Field sits on land once dominated by the railroad. Much of the land was used for railroad tracks and a large freight depot starting in the 1880s. DEnver's first passenger depot was in this area prior to 1881. Blake Street had small homes fronting the street between 20th and 23rd Streets. But after 1885, these homes were replaced by industrial and warehouse buildings. Colorado Compressed Gas; Wire, Rope and Cable Headquarters, and Paper Warehouse were located here. Windsor Farm Dairy had some buildings fronting Blake Street and used them as wagon storage for its delivery business.

In 1909, the Denio-Barr Milling and Grain Company opened its feed mill and elevator near the corner of 20th and Blake. This building dominated the area and sat adjacent to the 20th Street Viaduct until 1992 when it was demolished in preparation for the construction of Coors Field.

Record Breaking Game
April 7, 2008

Aaron Cook was excellent. He went seven innings using only 73 pitches. He operated at a brisk pace and induced 15 outs by way of groundballs. He was throwing sinkers, cutters and a changeup. The Braves did lead 1 to nothing til the eighth inning. Tulo was up to bat. He had already broken two bats earlier in the game by squeezing them too hard. But this time he looked like last year's Tulowitzki. He smacked a double to centerfield. Helton struck out on fastballs. "Big Daddy" was paying attention to this fact and promptly collabored a two run homer to centerfield. Before the game, Matt Holiday was awarded his Silver Slugger and Silver Bat recognizing his overall offensive excellence and batting title from last year. Rockies went on to win 2 to 1. Oh yeah, the record. This was the shortest nine inning game played at Coors Field at 2 hours and 5 minutes.
